Loving the music of Melanie C

I’ve been faithfully listening to the music produced by Melanie C since 1999 and I just realised that I’ve been listening to them for more than 14 years. Some of my favourite tracks are Northern Star, Never Be The Same Again, I Turn To You, First Day of My Life, Weak and the list go on and on.

She was the first Spice Girl whom I’ve met in Singapore and in my younger days, you will imagine how excited I was when I saw her, talked to her and got her autograph (well, those were the days). These days, due to the various commitments that I’ve had, I’m not following her updates as closely as I used to be, but I will make sure that I continue to read her updates periodically.

Well, I just hope that she will be returning to Singapore soon for a concert. In the meantime, if you are not very familiar with her music, here is a compilation of her singles so far.

Applause for 鳳飛飛… 掌聲響起

Over the past 2 days, we see the passing of 2 of the greatest singers, Whitney Houston and Feng Fei Fei. Its not a norm for me to dedicate a blog post to anyone but I thought, I will want to mention 鳳飛飛 since she gave us a number of classic tunes. One of my favourite is Applause (掌聲響起). The lyrics are meaningful and reflects our thoughts when we all go on stage to perform or do our first presentation. The applause or the encouragement that we got were memorable and how many of us work hard to become a good performer or good presenter. I quote one of my favourite part of the song, 孤獨站在這舞台.聽到掌聲響起來.我的心中有無限感慨

Is this song irritating?

I was driving wifey to work this morning when we heard over the radio of a particular song which had created a commotion in Taiwan. Some people find the song irritating and according to the DJs, there had been media report that the song was sang to catch the attention of the people.

I’ve heard the song and seriously I thought there is nothing wrong with it. The music is pretty good except probably the problem lies with the vocal but it seems, the singer purposely sang it this way. Watch the video and tell me if you like it.

Charice’s Pyramid

A long long time since I last posted a music video on my blog. But I came across this meaningful song on Channel V and thought I just got to share with everyone. The song is titled Pyramid and sung by Charice. I was reading the lyrics and loved almost every part of it especially the chorus,

Pyramid, we built this on a solid rock
It feels just like it's heaven's touch
Together at the top (at the top baby),
like a pyramid
And even when the wind is blowing
We'll never fall just keep on going
Forever we will stay, like a pyramid

I hope you will enjoy this song as much as I do and I make a pledge to myself, I want to learn how to sing this song and one day, at an appropriate function, I shall sing it to my wife.

小虎队 is back!

It should be more than 20 years since we last see the 3 ‘Tigers” performing together. The 3 “Tigers” I’m referring to are the 3 guys from 小虎队 who reformed to perform on CCTV’s Chinese New Year show. Its really quite funny to see 3 boys men doing dance routine and behaving like as if they are in their early 20s. Nevertheless, it was really nice to see them back on stage again, but should they perform they next time, they should just evolve and sing with some new dance steps and not those cheesy ones.

Precious Wilson – One Way Ticket

I came across Precious Wilson’s One Way Ticket when one of my friend actually shared it with us on Facebook. So let’s go retro and go back in time to enjoy this classic.

許哲珮-無賴

The next song recommendation is 許哲珮’s 無賴. I don’t think many people will like this song, sort of like a rock and alternate genre of music. But I thought this song is worth a mention since 許哲珮 has made a breakthrough in terms of the music and how she looks.

Just compare the difference from her 汽球 era. 汽球 was actually her debut song for her fans. Btw, I’m not a fan of her, so don’t be mistaken.

Shape of My Heart

This is one of my favourite Sugababe song, Shape of My Heart. The version that Sugababe sang, actually featured Sting. You might be confused, how come there is a Sugababe version? Actually, Sting was the actual singer for the original singer. After listening to Sting’s version, I realised that Sugababe had changed the lyrics slightly. Which one is better? You decided for yourself.

Black Eyed Peas – I’ve Gotta Feelin

Catchy tune, really nice lyrics and so perfect for the first day of 2010. I actually wanted to post this song last evening, preparing everyone for the countdown with the oh so beautiful chorus,

Tonight gonna be a good night, That tonight gonna be a good night, That tonight gonna be a good good night

I do hope everyone had a good night yesterday and enjoy this song.

那英-征服

This week, lets go back in time and listen to 那英’s 征服.
