Always keeping our promise

As my children grows older, I realised that there is a need to keep our promise, our promise to them of what we want to do for them. I’ve experienced it myself and it hurts really deeply when you see how disappointed they are. For example, I was supposed to bring them to the Science Centre last Sunday, but due to some last minute engagement, we’ve got to cancel the trip. Can you imagine how disappointed they were when we told them? They were all changed and all ready to leave the house.

Ever since this incident, I told myself that I should avoid disappointing them and to all the parents out there, if you promise your children on something, make sure you do it! In order to compensate them, I specially took leave today and brought them to the cinema for a movie. I’m glad they enjoy it though its probably not good enough to heal the wounds of their disappointment.

Where have I been?

I might not be posting over the past week and this is my longest absence from my blog that I’ve ever had. Seriously, even when I’m overseas, I’ll still try to make it a point to make a blog entry but this time it seems impossible. Its not that I’ve run out of ideas but these period of time, it has been pretty much enriching and eventful.

Over the past 2 months, I’ve been exploring and looking into many different ways of engaging the community through various community projects and initiatives. More than 90 days in office and I’m glad that some of the new initiatives that I’ve introduced is slowly taking shape. I wouldn’t say that they are successful, but for now, I’m happy with the developments. I definitely hope to see more involvement from the community and I’ll work hard to make this happen.

Recently, I’ve went for one of the most important interview in my life. Over the past 9 years, I’ve set a goal and worked hard for the day. I’m glad that the opportunity came and I was given the chance. I’m not sure how things will turn out to be, but I’ll be lying to you if I say that I’m not hoping for a success. Whatever the outcome is, I’m know I’ve done my best. Like one of my colleague told me, “We work so hard for today, and we should walk out with pride knowing that we’ve done our best.”

Lastly, I’ve been having problems using my laptop without my magic mouse. I need the “magical powers” of the mouse to help me with the surfing and other stuff. Well, I’ll be collecting my refurbished mouse soon, so things will be getting back to norm!

Ethan sharing on Blue Samurai Power Ranger

After so many years, just when we thought Power Rangers was a thing of the past, its BACK! Surprisingly, one day, Ethan had shown keen interest in these action figures and started searching for Power Rangers video on YouTube. Then, he was able to share with me stuff on all the rangers as well as their big thing, MEGAZORD (I hope I spell it correctly).

Last Sunday, I got Ethan these new series of Power Rangers called Samurai Power Rangers and chose the blue ranger. He then told me that he wanted to tell everyone more about the Blue Samurai Power Ranger.

3 years… And I’m still blogging!

Time flies and I’ve blogged for 3 years. Over the past 3 years, I’ve been discovering, thinking of what this blog should be all about, what contents to be included and whether I will be able to continue blogging. I’ve gradually found topics which I’m interested in blogging about and I’m glad that there are people who keeps visiting this blog and read what I’ve written. I’ve always said that blogging is a way for me to improve my English. Minutes were spent drafting each post in ensuring that there are minimal spelling and grammatical errors. Well, I still do spot my own mistakes though.

Over the past year, I’ve received more invitations than I ever had previously and I will like to thank the organizations for the support. I do hope that the invites will keep coming and I’ll be able to blog more interesting stuff for my readers. Please continue to support.

On this special occasion, I’m proud to announce the launch of the fanpage for my blog. The fanpage will contain updates of the blog and do LIKE it!

An interview with Ezanne

It was a normal Saturday afternoon and it was just Ezanne and myself and I thought what can we do. I decided to start asking Ezanne some simple questions. Knowing that she is comfortable and already “warm up”, I decided to start recording the session with my iPhone. After watching it, I thought I’m quite satisfied with the end product.

Enjoy.

Its Mum’s Birthday

Once again, we are celebrating Mum’s birthday and this year, we’ve got Evan as an addition to this celebration. Just before we left for dinner, we had a birthday cake cutting session at home.

Like all the cake cutting sessions that we had, Ethan and Ezanne were always excited about it, singing the birthday song in English and Chinese and eagerly waiting for the moment, blowing the candles and cutting the cake. A little commotion happened during the cake cutting portion.

Last year, we had Mum’s birthday dinner at Seafood Paradise at Singapore Flyer. This year, we had Mum’s birthday dinner at Seafood Paradise too. But its at their newly opened restaurant at Terminal 2. The staff were friendly, they were not stingy on their servings and the restaurant was still quite spacious, at least, I could still maneuver the pram within the restaurant. Since the staff is friendly, I’ve requested them to help us take a family photo.

I know mum and dad enjoyed themselves. At least there wasn’t any negative complaints except for over-ordering the food. At least, I think this is the least that I can do for them.

Running For Hope

My upcoming Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) in December will be a rewarding one. This will be my second attempt in running the 21km route at SCMS and I thought the run will be meaningful if it can benefit others. Therefore, I’ve decided to raise funds for Make A Wish Foundation. I’m not asking for more, my target is $500.

Make A Wish Foundation grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Each wish brings smiles, laughter and a sense of wonder, together with many special memories to cherish. Please help support the charity by support my run, Running for Hope.

Tweeting away…

I started tweeting 2.5 years ago and then I was wondering what Twitter was all about and was exploring how special Twitter was and how long will I be using it. I find Twitter especially challenging – since it has a 140 character limit but well that’s also what I like about Twitter, keeping everything short, sweet and simple.

Over the past 2.5 years, Twitter had given me quite a number of opportunities and meeting many great people who had enriched my social media life. Just this week, I’ve made my 20000th tweet, something that I had never thought about simply because I didn’t expect myself to be tweeting so long.

Whatever it is, I guess, I’ll be tweeting for quite a while more, exactly when will I stop tweeting… For now, I do not have any answer yet. But if you have not start tweeting, probably you might want to start creating a Twitter account and start exploring it. You can follow me on Twitter, @patrickpang.

My 1st Army Half Marathon

I made my first attempt at Army Half Marathon last Sunday. It was my second 21km run (the first was Standard Chartered Marathon last December) and I had some reservations on my performance just before the run started. I was not too sure how I will perform since I had quite a difficult time in my last marathon, trying to complete it.

A few reasons why I like running at a half marathon. First, you can just sweat it out and it feels really good after the run, though the aches and pains are something that makes you wonder “Why do I want to get myself into such a state in the first place?” Second, its all about a test for myself, the determination and endurance. I always wonder why marathon organizer always leave the worst for the last. I was actually made to run up Fort Canning during my last 4km. Third, with the roads all closed, it means that you get to run on roads that you will never get to run at all and the routes sometimes, will bring you to new places where its worth exploring. For the latest run, I’ve explore Gardens By The Bay East. Take a look at the picture I took at 6.30am. Personally, I thought its wonderful.

Time to start training for my next run.

Paint a Smurf with Ethan and Ezanne

If you’ve been reading this blog, you will know that I just ran a competition for my readers to win a chance to paint a smurf with your family. Well, I got the chance too as I brought Ethan and Ezanne to Northpoint for this special session organized by Fraser Centrepoint Malls. We were actually late but luckily we arrived in time to start painting our smurf. Both Ethan and Ezanne each got a smurf to paint.

At 5, Ethan more or less knows what he wants to do. He knows what colour he wants to paint and how he wants his smurf to look like. For Ezanne, it was more like a plaything for her.

Although we did not win anything at the end of session, the children enjoyed themselves very much and at least, both of them were given a chance to show off their creativity. It was also a session where we got a chance to take a family photo (hmm, Evan not in).
