On Day 2 of our Hong Kong trip, we decided to take a ferry to Macau for a one day tour. The ferry trip took around 45 minutes and costs HKD $138 for a one way ticket. The ticket prices are actually dependent on the time that you are traveling. Generally, they have ferry departing at intervals of 15mins to 20 mins but as there are quite a lot of passengers, you will have to wait an average of 1 hour before boarding one (at least, that was my experience). There are 2 ferry terminals in Hong Kong, 1 in Sheung Wan and the other in Tsim Sha Tsui. We took the on at Sheung Wan since it was located at Hong Kong island.
At the ferry terminal, we were greeted with many promoters selling hotel packages of the various casinos. We did a check at the Tourism Board Office located at the terminal and found out that there are quite a number of free shuttle service that will bring us to the casinos. We took one of the shuttle service provided by City of Dreams.
Macau was a very compact city (I thought). On our way to City of Dreams, we saw the Police HQ, airport, university, hospital and a school. When we arrived at City of Dreams, all we could see were beautiful buildings, which in fact, are casinos.
Just like Marina Bay Sands, The Venetian has an indoor river.
I would probably think that Macau is one of those cities where you can actually live next to a casino. Imagine if a casino were to be built next to your HDB flat, can you imagine the uproar from the people?
In Macau, casinos had brightly lit neon lights with the words CASINO. Its totally different from what’s happening in Singapore where there isn’t any obvious indication of where the casinos are unless you are in the complex itself. This trip to Macau was surely an eye-opening trip for me.
