The food are cheap but…

The food in KL are cheap but so far, I don’t really like the shopping here. Probably I do not know where to go to get cheap stuff and probably I don’t have enough time to move around, those could be the reasons why I probably did not explore much of KL.

Some of my notable discoveries…

1) Kim Gary in KL is so cheap. With almost the same amount of food I ordered, the price is nearly halved in KL as compared to Singapore.

2) I was shopping at Isetan and came across a 70% sale for bed sheets. 70% sale which meant I got 2 sets for just $35 Singapore dollars. They did not put up any posters on the sale, therefore I think you really need to walk into the departmental stores to explore it.

3) In terms of transport, given the distance, I thought its still quite reasonable if you take the limo from the hotel to airport or airport to hotel. From the airport to KL City cost me $73.40RM and from the hotel in KL city to the airport, it cost me $80RM. The monorail quite affordable too. 3 monorail stations cost me $1.60RM which is about S$0.70.

Do share with me by leaving your comments on where are the must go places in KL. Maybe I will be back the next time.

Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This could be one of my most challenging trip that I’ve traveled so far. Though its much closer and familiar to us, but I’m not a frequent traveler to Kuala Lumpur (KL) and I got to tell you that I was alittle lost when I arrived on Sunday even though I’ve done some research over the internet and asking around when I was back in Singapore.

A note to all the corporations out there, websites are important, especially tourists like me wants to do research on travel options and places on where to go. I decided to take the airport limo, which costs me $73.40RM, to the hotel instead of the KL Express because I could not figure out where to take the monorail after arriving at KL Sentral. The website for the monorail was in fact closed for maintenance.

The Petronas Twin Tower is just a 10 minutes walk from where I’m staying so the first place to visit, is the Twin Tower.

The Twin Tower houses a shopping mall called Suria KLCC and has a wide variety of shops. But I did not get anything for myself since the shops were pretty much similar to the ones we have in Singapore. Nevertheless, I thought this is one of the places to visit since I personally think that this is one of the architecture wonder.

Earth Hour 2011

This is the 3rd year that WWF Singapore is organizing Earth Hour in Singapore but it seems to me that its the first time that Earth Hour becomes a large scale event in Singapore. I thought this is such a meaningful event that I brought Ethan and Ezanne to the Promontory @ Marina Bay to witness the lights off. However, both wifey and me thought that this event can be done better.

1. The surrounding buildings should not off their lights first. They could do a coordinated lights off, though challenging but I thought to get that effect, it will be good.

2. The night walk route should pass by buildings that has lights switched off. I remembered part of the road covered the Double Helix Bridge, sadly, URA did not off the lights on the bridge facade.

3. Find a landmark to mark this event. While the location at the Promontory can accommodate more people, but with no exact landmark to look towards to, it seems to be a little meaningless.

Anyway, I managed to capture picture of the skyline before and after 8.30pm (Earth Hour).

I’ve got a group photo with my gynae

Since Evan was born, I was quite determined to have a group photo taken with our gynae. The reason is simple, after Evan, we don’t think we are going to have a 4th child anymore, so taking the photo is like a great ending to this conceiving journey. After wifey have given birth to Evan, I’ve attempted many times to take a group photo with our gynae, but he will always tell me, “Don’t worry, there will always be a chance next time.” After waiting for 3 months, the chance is finally here.

Ethan is on Changi Connection

I know you will be irritated to see this blog post if you have been following Ethan on his fanpage, my Facebook, following me on Twitter or on Instagram but I just have to blog about this, Ethan is on the back cover of Changi Connection.

Changi Connection is a corporate newsletter for Changi Airport Group and Ethan was on the page was because of his attendance for the 1st Latte Session with Changi. I received a call from Melvin one day who requested for the picture of Ethan as they were writing an article. Well, I thought why not but I was not sure how the photo will turn out and I thought Ethan’s photo could be one of the many.

When Melvin and his colleagues told me that the newsletter was ready and they had sent a copy to me, I was eagerly waiting and checking my letter box everyday. In fact, I was quite surprised to see Ethan’s photo (just his photo) for this story as I thought there were many other beautiful pictures taken. This picture holds two special meaning for me. One, it was Ethan who is in the photo and two, the photo was taken by me. It was just a shot to capture Ethan observing the 3D model of the entire Changi Airport. Well, I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I do when taking it and once again, thank you to the wonderful people at Changi Airport.

Did you miss our Latte Session with Changi experience? You can still read them here. You can actually see the original photo in one of the blog post.

The invitation card is here finally

We usually get our wedding invitation card before the wedding, but for my friend Sally, I got hers after attending the wedding. When I first saw the card from my friend Shux, I told Sally that I definitely want her to send it to me (by whatever means). While I was supposed to get it from her prior to her wedding when I was in Hong Kong, we didn’t had the time to catch up, which means we didn’t get to meet and she didn’t get a chance to pass it to me. But Sally is nice enough to get another friend to send it to me and I finally got it.

Each card comes with a red packet (its purple colour in this case). This means that if you receive the card, even if you can’t attend, you are required to “return” something back to the couple. This is just one of the many local practices that I’ve learnt while I was attending the wedding then.

I’m not too sure if I’ll ever get another chance to attend an overseas wedding but this is definitely one memorable experience. With this invitation card, it marks a perfect ending to this memorable March trip to Hong Kong.

Tweeting for 2 years on Twitter

When I first sign up for Twitter, I thought it was just a 140 characters social media platform that allows you to update your status. I didn’t have many friends around me who were using Twitter as well. That was 2 years ago.

2 years on, I have more friends in Twitter but I also discovered that Twitter is no longer about updating of status, but about information sharing. For example, I remembered how we get to know some important news first before it’s even reported on the mainstream media. Not only information, but it got me to get to know many different people and had many wonderful experience. Time flies and I’ve been on Twitter for 2 years and I wonder how many more year will I be staying on Twitter?

Our Family Montage 2011

On a quiet night in March 2010, I compiled the pictures, started exploring iMovie and did a Family Montage. I was happy with the end results, it gave me the feel that it brings me through the growing up years of the children and how our family had grew. Then I thought, maybe I should start doing every year.

Almost exactly a year, I finally found some time to do it again. This time, the production of this video is slightly different. Ethan was sitting beside me and giving me suggestions what are the photos to be put into the montage and I actually gave him a few songs (rather just 2 songs) to choose to be put into the video as background music.

Although this video is shorter than the one I did in 2010, but it was able to reflect the interesting bits of our family. Enjoy!

Disney on Ice

After more than 20 years, I’m finally back at Singapore Indoor Stadium watching Disney. This time, its a different me. I’m no longer a kid anymore. I’m brining my wife and my children.

The show was split into 2 parts. The first was performed by characters from Cars, Little Mermaid and Lion King while the second, was on the fairy, Tinkerbell. Mickey Mouse and company only performed during the intervals and we didn’t see Daisy Duck at all. I thought the most interesting segment was seeing the cars, being controlled remotely, moving around the skating ring.

The segment on Tinkerbell was alittle boring though and personally, I prefer watching Sesame Street. But, I got to admit that Disney never fails to surprise us. During the finale, they had flowers blooming around the skating ring and Tinkerbell literally flying above the skating ring.

I hope the children enjoyed themselves as Ezanne was actually having fever when we were watching this show.

1st Punggol FBTweetUp

My first social media event had made me learn many things about organizing an event. I got to admit that organizing one is not easy, you need a venue, you need people to help you and you need people to attend. I’m glad that for this event, I’ve got Popeye’s Punggol to support by providing free space, drinks and door gift and my fellow neighbours like Nick Pan, Daphne and her boyfriend, Nic and Antonio to help.

Through the meeting, I’ve met great neighbours and friends and heard from others how we can further improve the next meetup. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the members of Punggol 21 Facebook fanpage and followers of @punggollatest know the person behind it and to understand from them how the fanpage and Twitter account can be improved further. I guess Punggol is the only town that has organized such an event.

I’m glad that I’ve heard many comments and appreciate the help from my team once again. For those who attended, I hope to see you in the next FBTweetUp if I’m going to do another one again (it really depends on demand).
