Determination.Endurance.. Standard Chartered Marathon, My First

People around me were quite skeptical when they knew that I’ve signed up for 21km run (Half Marathon) for the Standard Chartered Marathon 2010. Frankly speaking, even myself was skeptical too. If you know me, you will know that I’m not a physical person.

On 5th December, I took part in my first half marathon which started from Sentosa Gateway. Personally, I thought the slopes were a killer, especially when we had to run slowly up the slopes due to the crowd. Then, we had the opportunity to run to Universal Studios Singapore, which I started cam whoring.

By the time we left Sentosa, we had already completed 9km. The sun has risen and it has become hotter. Well, I persisted and its really interesting to see many people running for various reasons. I remembered seeing one as “I run because my wife force me to.” The other said, “Osaka, Tokyo, I’m 70 years old and I’m running for you.”

Leg cramps sets in when I was at my half way mark. My muscles hardened and I couldn’t walk and run. I just stood at a corner to relax my legs. I was thinking to myself, so when will this run end? Then I came across this board when I was at the 15km mark, “Painful but worth it!”. It was really painful but the determination and endurance has made it all worth it.

You can really see and experience lots of things when you run, especially when the roads are closed for you. Running along ECP and observing Marina Bay Sands from a different perspective.

Finally, I completed the run with the time of 3hours 28 mins. It was definitely a great experience and I’m looking forward to my next run in April 2011. Last but not least, if you think you can do it, you will definitely do it. Never give up!
