N.E.mation! 5 – The workshop for bloggers

I’ve attended the first event, an invitation as a blogger, and I got all excited about it. I was invited by 24seven communications to the event held at Nanyang Polytechnic and was wondering what this was all about.

I set foot on the premises of NYP and headed to the lab. Dinner was provided by since I was on diet, I decided to give it a miss though it was a sumptuous one. We were partnered with another blogger and for me, my partner of the night was Nik. So what happened? We were given a briefing on what N.E.mation! was all about. In case you doesn’t know, N.E.mation! is a competition for youths to express their notions on Total Defence through animation. N.E.mation! has grown from strength to strength. From 300 students in the first season, to over 2000 participants in the current one. Do you know that the following animation were the winning entry from N.E.mation! that has done Singapore proud?

Joshua from AnImagine gave a talk on what animation was all about, which I totally agree with. Animation is supposed to be fun, useful, able to express the theme it is trying to communicate with the viewers.

We were also told of the different types of animation and SURPRISED, we were told that we will get to try on one type of animation – CLAYMATION! So what were we supposed to do? Ah, we were supposed to mould a worm and make it into a claymation, its that’s simple. SIMPLE? Maybe moulding the worm is but giving a name ain’t that easy, but from here, I’m going to call it Winky Worm.

Getting the worm done was still pretty much alright. But getting it into action was slightly difficult. First, we need to enhance how Winky Worm looks. It was too simple. So we added something over the head.

Next, we need a backdrop.

Then, we got to get him moving and proceed with the production stage.

What’s the final product? Some of you might have already seen it… Its a 6 seconds performance by Winky Worm. I’ve added the music to make it more lively.

It took me more than an hour to produce this short 6 seconds clip. A lot of effort has been put into this video and getting it done was no easy job at all, especially you need to make something dead becomes alive. The final 10 teams will be given 3 weeks to do their video and at the end of production, they will need YOU to vote to decide who will win the top prize to fly to DreamWorks. I hope I can, but dream on.

So now, you’ve got some idea of what N.E.mation 5 is all about? Stay tuned for the voting details and finalists video (I’ll try to get it) soon.
