Worrying situation at KKH A&E

We sent Ethan to KKH A&E on Thursday after he vomitted twice. First, we went to see a doctor and he gave Ethan glucose and medicine to stop his vomitting. She said that Ethan will be observed for two hours and after two hours, we just need to alert the nurse and she will alert the doctor for us.

Two hours passed, it was 1.15am, and I went to alert the nurse that Ethan had completed the glucose and he is ready to see the doctor. 15 minutes later, the doctor was still calling other patients and having past experiences where they missed Ethan, I decided to alert the nurse again. With no nurses around, I decided to alert the doctor instead.

Shockingly, the first reaction when I alerted the doctor was, “NO, I did not see him! Its not me, its other doctor.” Fine, while I understand that she did not see him earlier, her reaction doesn’t need to be so exaggerating. Worst still, she told me to check with the nurse myself and keep grumbling that she is not seeing Ethan cause she did not see him earlier.

What was even more shocking was, the nurse told me, “Can you give me your son’s name again, I’ve forget about it!” WHAT? She can forget the poor boy’s name and this is worrying, will she forget what medicine she is supposed to give to what patient? Then her fellow nurse started to fight for her and trying to convince me to give the name again. I meant, its not that I don’t want to give, but since she forget about the name, she should find her way to look for Ethan’s name. On the other hand, the doctor who see Ethan continued to grumble that she is not seeing Ethan.

Personally, I thought there is still a long way to go for KKH to improve their service. While I do understand that they might not be perfect, but a doctor who rejects my son isn’t a good doctor and a nurse who forgets my son’s name is simply unacceptable.
