Ethan’s Birthday Celebration with Aunties and Uncles

The second part of Ethan’s birthday celebration was done with his aunties and uncles. What is so special for this celebration was his birthday cake which was specially designed by his uncle. It came in the shape of a Mickey Mouse glove, which coincidentally had 4 ‘fingers’ which represents Ethan turning 4 this year. On the glove itself, it was the Sydney Harbour Bridge which Ethan loves lots and basically after we return from Sydney, whenever he sees any vehicular bridge, he will say, “Its Harbour Bridge!”

The square cake itself was strawberry short cake while the glove was brownie. It was a 2kg cake that never look like one and luckily, everyone had a share to bring it home.

As a tradition of my own, I always try to get all the attendees to take a group photo. Well this year, we have some new additions to the family like Shernice (she wasn’t with us last year).

Take alook at the photo that we took in 2009 at the exact same spot. See any difference?

iPad Demo @ SPH

I was one of the lucky 12 who was invited to SPH for a iPad demo after responding to their invitation through Digital Life Fanpage. I was looking forward to this session since I was pretty new to my iPad and thought I could explore much more about iPad through this session.

The session was attended by Digital Life editor Grace Chng, a few of her friends and some SPH staff. They gave us some insights on iPad and shared with us what they use the iPad for. I was especially impressed with the availability of a portable projector in the market which we can attach it to the iPad.

The iPad gurus also shared some of the interesting and useful apps. I started to download the apps during the session and one of my favourite is actually called Dropbox. Now, my documents is sync among all my 3 apple products which means I can do my stuff on the go. Another app which I like it very much is called Eyewitness, it basically shows the different pictures taken for The Guardian newspaper and there are useful photography tips!

After the sharing session, I managed to find more purpose for my iPad and thought it is going to be my other great companion.

KKH vs Thomson Medical

I was reading through my tweets and one particular tweet about my friend’s choice of going to a private hospital for her future delivery prompted to blog about the comparison between KKH and Thomson Medical. Firstly, I will like to clarify that I did not choose to go to a private hospital for our 3rd child but since our gynae has left KKH, we decided to move with him since it did not cost much between the public and private hospital.

As a private patient in KKH, we had high expectations and 4 years ago, it did not fail us. We had personalised service like seeing our gynae in the evenings, able to do the ultrasound scan in the consultation room, shorter waiting time, friendlier service and at least, more time with our gynae to find out more about the pregnancy. In case you didn’t know, in KKH, if you are a subsidized patient, you need to go through a considerable waiting time, different ultrasound scanning and consultation room and only day consultation.

4 years on, I felt personally that there is no difference being a private patient in KKH. The number of people consulting at The Private Suite has grown significantly and the waiting time has increased too. It could easily be a 30 to 45 minutes wait. The collection of medication has also became quite a hassle since we got to queue up with subsidized patient at the pharmacy.

With our gynae moving to a private hospital, Thomson Medical to be exact, we could experience for ourself the difference. First, one of the major difference we could experience was how powerful their ultrasound scanning equipment was. I could see my little one more clearly and of course, other than printed copies, my gynae could now save soft copies of the images and VIDEOS as well. Waiting time drop significantly and of course, with lesser patients now, our gynae was able to spend more time with us.

So if you can afford, I thought it will be better to be a patient at a private hospital rather than being a private patient in a government hospital. Although personally, I felt that I didn’t really pay much more.

iPad

5 locations and more than 2 hours of queuing, that was how far I went on the day iPad was officially launched in Singapore. It was not an intended move, but since I was on leave and had some time to spare, I thought, why not. Frankly, I did not expect to get one on the first day of launch actually, but then again, since many die hard iPad Singapore fans would have gotten theirs since the US launch, I reckon it ain’t that difficult to get one too.

Eventually, I got mine at Juzz 1 @ Parkway Parade. While I was queuing, I got to know the ugliest sight of things. First, some buyers got the entire family to queue. Family, I meant father, mother, brother, uncle, aunty and maid! Yes, each of them got 2 iPads and NO they are not getting it for themselves, but to sell it! Next there was a couple who shared that they got 4 iPads at Challenger decided to get a few more so that they could sell it too!

Aside from this, for me, I will be attending an iPad demo session on Wednesday at the Straits Times Building and I am so looking forward to it. Personally, I thought that iPad is more suitable for children like Ethan than for adults like me. Nevertheless, I’m still trying to differentiate the difference between using and iPad and a iPhone and my MacBook Pro.

Lastly, I’m proud to already own 3 APPLE Products!

Ethan’s Birthday Celebration @ Resorts World Sentosa

Our trip to Resorts World Sentosa were so much more memorable compared to our last one. We checked into our Family Deluxe King room at Festive Hotel and we were greeted with balloons and ginger bread man soft toys. Ethan and Ezanne were very excited when they see it.

We had our dinner at one of the restaurants in RWS and Ethan kept saying that he wanted to go back to the room. Ethan rather stay in the room then going out to play.

After dinner, it was back to cake cutting session in the room. The cake was a gift from the hotel too.

When we return home, Ethan kept mentioning one that he wants to go back to the hotel to bathe and wants to stay in the hotel for a longer period, like what he did in Sydney.

Ethan will be having 2 more birthday celebrations, 1 with his uncles and aunties and the other with his classmates.

Punggol Did It Again!

Last Sunday, we’ve got the 6th Punggol Street Parade and for the first time, new media was incorporated into the event itself. In case you was wondering what happened, the event was updated LIVE via Facebook and Twitter to more than 1000 Punggol residents.

Which public housing estate is as IT savvy as Punggol? Personally, I’m really proud of this, seeing a fan page that I’ve created to grow and being recognised as the source to turn to when they need information on Punggol and of course being able to cover an event officially for the first time. But I will also like to thank my other friends from Punggol supporting this entire operation. I believe there will be many more events that Punggol 21 Fanpage will be covering and once again THANK YOU to everyone for supporting.

Are you a Punggol resident? Then join us @ Punggol 21 Fanpage.

Live our Dream, Fly our Flag

National Day is nearing us and what a better way to do it virtually is to display a flag in this blog itself. A movement started by one of my net friend/ neighbour, Nick Pan, flying a flag has never been much easier. This movement has its own official Facebook page too.

Live Our Dreams, Fly our Flag

So what are you waiting for? Save the image and start doing your part for National Day and fly the Singapore flag, virtually, I mean!

Worrying situation at KKH A&E

We sent Ethan to KKH A&E on Thursday after he vomitted twice. First, we went to see a doctor and he gave Ethan glucose and medicine to stop his vomitting. She said that Ethan will be observed for two hours and after two hours, we just need to alert the nurse and she will alert the doctor for us.

Two hours passed, it was 1.15am, and I went to alert the nurse that Ethan had completed the glucose and he is ready to see the doctor. 15 minutes later, the doctor was still calling other patients and having past experiences where they missed Ethan, I decided to alert the nurse again. With no nurses around, I decided to alert the doctor instead.

Shockingly, the first reaction when I alerted the doctor was, “NO, I did not see him! Its not me, its other doctor.” Fine, while I understand that she did not see him earlier, her reaction doesn’t need to be so exaggerating. Worst still, she told me to check with the nurse myself and keep grumbling that she is not seeing Ethan cause she did not see him earlier.

What was even more shocking was, the nurse told me, “Can you give me your son’s name again, I’ve forget about it!” WHAT? She can forget the poor boy’s name and this is worrying, will she forget what medicine she is supposed to give to what patient? Then her fellow nurse started to fight for her and trying to convince me to give the name again. I meant, its not that I don’t want to give, but since she forget about the name, she should find her way to look for Ethan’s name. On the other hand, the doctor who see Ethan continued to grumble that she is not seeing Ethan.

Personally, I thought there is still a long way to go for KKH to improve their service. While I do understand that they might not be perfect, but a doctor who rejects my son isn’t a good doctor and a nurse who forgets my son’s name is simply unacceptable.

When you can’t resist temptation…

I’m feeling sick, alittle block nose, alittle dry throat but yet, when I’ve got a craving, I simply can’t resist. Since I was working OT, I decided to think what I want to eat for dinner. Since I’ve got craving for chicken, I’ve decided to have KFC! The only disappointment with the meal was not being able to enjoy my favourite coleslaw cause they gave me the whipped potato instead. Will I feel worst tomorrow or will I feel better? Hmm…

Its Official – Evan Pang

After our gynae check up today, I’m proud to unveil the new kid on the block, EVAN PANG. While there are still a certain percentage of uncertainty, but the gynae was quite confident that its going to be a boy. So here’s the complete package – Ethan, Ezanne, Evan (3Es).

I’m quite puzzled why we are not able to fix to a EDD like the previous 2 pregnancy. Based on the information provided today, Jingyi is 17 weeks pregnant and we should expect our little one to ‘pop’ out in December.

I shall see what I can blog about this 3rd pregnancy and try to do it more often cause its going to be my 3rd and last baby, at least, the last that my wife has agreed to.
