Last week, I was discussing about the education system with one of my colleagues after one ugly incident we experienced. There were about 3 of us having breakfast together and 2 of us, decided to go for more. When we came back, we saw this lady who just conveniently put her plate on the table (without asking my 1 other colleague who was still sitting there). Then I told the lady that we are sitting there and guess what she replied, “But there are so many other seats around, can’t you just sit elsewhere?” Since this is a public place, I tried to keep my cool and told her again, “Excuse me, we are sitting there, we just went to get our food and my colleague is still there.” She then mumbled and walk off to another table. IF she had asked, I would have let her sit down, but then again, since she did not take any initiative, its only right I teach her a lesson.
Anyway, so we started to discuss our education system. So my colleague told me that in her daughter’s school, whenever there is a dispute going on between the students and when their teachers are not around, the dispute is never being attended to. Even when a teacher from any class walk past, he/she will just continue to walk and pretend that nothing has happened. I can’t really verify if this is true, but if this is happening, it will be worrying, cause it would mean that our teachers have become alittle self-centred and selfish and how do our children learn in such an environment. I would think that our children will also grow and learn and become self-centred.
I’m eagerly waiting for Ethan to be Primary 1 and from then, I will be able to judge myself.
