The NIQC Journey

The Beginning
5th February marks a day where I’ve left an important and memorable milestone in my career. My team was selected to represent my organization for the NIQC Competition. Frankly speaking when I first received the email, I was happy yet worried, cause no one in my division has reach this level and I was afraid I will not have the time to commit, cause very quickly, I’ve got to commit myself to 5 lessons of crash course to prepare my report and presentation.

The Process
I was embrassed and stress up during the first lesson. Other teams has done a much better job than me by having a fantastic report, but for me, it was a really lousy one, it was one report that I will never want to share with anybody. As Jingyi gave birth in mid-Feb, it has created a really big problem for me, cause within that week, there was 2 lessons. 1 of it Melvin attended for me, while the other, we skip it as we were both engaged. Soon, it was the last lesson for report writing. My team was highlighted by the trainer for not submitting the paper. Time was running out to submit and exam was just 1 week away, I spent the last few days before submission, working on the report and sending it to the trainer for vetting.

In the days that leads to the competition, it was defintely nerve biting for me. I was thinking of the skit, wondering what storyboard should I have, the flow of the presentation, what to present and the overall package for the team. Rehearsals after rehearsals, my team members would have gotten pissed off with me, cause I’ve asked them to re-do, repeat and amend. During our internal meetings, I told my team, “We should not let our organization down and we must do everyone proud, being the first to represent our division, it is our utmost duty to do our best!”

On competition day (which is today), all of us put in our best effort and really gave it our best. The 3 judges were listening and enjoying our presentation and for once I thought, maybe I can try the marketing profession, cause I was hard selling my innovation.

The End Result
We’ve got a SILVER, a result which I am very satisfied and proud of.
