My jobscope these days seems to have been shifted. My part time job now is a presenter for the guests who are visiting my organization.
A presentation doesn’t seems too difficult for me, especially to a particular section of my office, however, the difficulty comes when you have to convert the presentation into Chinese. Well, speaking in Chinese isn’t that challenging, but too convert all the technical terms that we used in English into Chinese (without any proper guide), is really something.
Yesterday, I presented to a group of 20 odd Chinese officials and explained that stuff that we did in Chinese. The entire preparation started in the morning with Kenzo. He presented his section, and I presented mine. Both of us were scrambling through glossary and dictionary to find the proper terminologies. It was just a 20 mins presentation, but it seems to be one that is conducted for 2 hours.
At about 4.30pm, I started my presentation. Surprisingly, my stage fright was gone and started to speak. What makes me happy for this particular presentation was I pull through the most difficult part, which is to explain and present to them in proper, standard Chinese. And they were in fact an enthusiastic crowd. They asked plenty of questions which I was really happy to explain to them.
I wonder when will my next Chinese presentation be? (CHOI, hope I will not have to do it again…)
