Review 2008 Part 2: Family

In terms of family, several things has progressed this year.

In February, Ethan has finally started schooling, well not exactly the fixed timing schooling that you expect. He has started attending playgroup. The sad thing was I couldn’t accompany him to school in the beginning. Not too sure how other kids fair, but Ethan took about 4 months to get used to the environment and the people at school. Since then, he is coping really well and has started to become a school bully.

In July, came the good news. After much anticipation, we’re gonna welcome another new family member. The baby girl will be due in early March, as for the name, we are still cracking our head to think of one.

In August, in preparation for our new family member, we’ve got a maid to help my mom. So far, she is doing fine, well, no one is perfect, of course there are some things that we think there’s room for improvement for her.

We’ve also found some time to take a family potrait. It was fun and memorable. When Baby No.2 reaches 2 years old, we shall go for another family photoshoot.

Then in November, we’ve got a new car, Toyota Wish. It was quite sad to bid farewell to our Mitsubishi Lancer, afterall, that was our first car and its performance was really good. But since I like to travel in one car with my family members (my parents, wife, children and maid), getting a bigger car seems a better option. Apparently, car prices is at its lowest.

It has really been fulfilling to see Ethan grow. From a baby whom you carry, till a small boy, who now starts to walk, run and jump and trying to talk to you in his E Language (Ethan’s language). And for once, I’ve never expected to sing London Bridge is falling down again, watch and sing-a-long with Barney and reading bedtime stories to him.

So what to expect in 2009? Ethan has been promoted from playgroup to Nursery 1 and he will be starting his weekend enrichment class soon. We will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of the baby girl.

Review 2008 Part 1: Work

It was a hectic 2007, but I still managed to find some time off to travel with Jingyi to Hong Kong. Its our first furthest overseas trip so far, and I got to say, WE ENJOYED IT! For New Years Eve, I was busy with countdown and when the clock strike 12, it was 2008, celebrating with my colleagues.

January and February was not too bad, and I was planning to take 1 week leave to accompany Ethan to school. But an unprecedented incident and screw up my schedules, and since then, it has been work, work and non stop work. I got to say from February to August, I’ve never stopped working late. Most of my time was spent in office. But being busy is good, cause it means that your bosses believes in you, giving you assignment, so at least, I felt I was useful to the organization. But being so busy has taken a serious toll on my health (I shall elaborate more when in my next post when I talk about myself).

It has been a year of surprises, ups and down. In late April, I’ve gotten the news of possible promotion, but when the time came, it was a total disappointment. But nevertheless, its history, and it was time to move on. I’m thinking, there’s probablly a next time, so just wait. If it comes, it will come. But if it doesn’t, its just pointless to keep thinking about it. Due to an addition of a new colleague, there were some reshufflement in my unit. But I’m glad I was still able to do things that I like and still had the chance to face new challenges at work.

Thanks to the bosses who believes in me, I’ve also gotten a chance to go back to school to study. 8 months on, there are times when I thought of giving up (its just too difficult to juggle between work, studies and families). But whenever I thought how lucky I was, it just keeps me moving. So how lucky I was? I got to understand that some people had applied more than once for sponsorship studies, but for me, it was my first attempt and I got it!

Since late November, I’ve started to takes thing slowly but sometimes, I’m just not too used to it. Like what Jingyi said, I’m simply a workaholic!

So what’s installed for me for 2009? For now, I know that I’ll be kept busy for the first 2 months and the later half of the year. I’ll also start counting down to the completion of my studies.

And for 2008, I want to thank my dearest wife, who has been behind me, quietly supporting me and giving me encouragement. Like the Chinese saying, “每个成功男人的背后,都有一个女人”. Whenever I’m down at work, she is the one who encouraged me. Whenever I’m happy, she’ll always be the first to know the good news. Whenever I’m sleeping in office, she is the one staying at home looking after the kid.

Upgrading in progress

As you can see, the blog has a new design. It will take some days for the new design to be in place. So please be patient.

Random pictures of Ethan

Last Monday, before we left for our lunch at Disney Naturally, Ethan started to pose when he saw mummy taking out her camera phone.

Its really scary

2008 is going to be over soon in about 3 days time. Wow, its just like a blink of an eye that 2008 just come and go like that.

So what have I done for 2008 in terms of work, family and personal life? To combine all into 1 posts will be too much. So starting tomorrow till 31 Dec, I’ll slowly tell you what had happened in 2008 and how I felt for the things that had happened around me.

Beauty Tips

Just went for my monthly facial this morning. Have to re-schedule it to today cause I was stuck in a meeting on Friday afternoon. Well anyway, back to the facial.

The first thing I asked my beautician was why there are always a pimples outbreak each time after my facial. So I asked if it is due to the SK II essence that I’m using or the products that were used on me during the facial.

So according to her, it could possibly be due to the acne cream that she applied that have caused the outbreak. So she said she will not apply any for me today.

The next possibility could be due to the SK II Essence. It could be due to the dryness on my skin, and since the essence is acidic, it has caused the pimple outbreak and redness on my face. Her advice on using the essence,
1. Use on alternate days
2. Best to use it at night
3. Apply a moisturizer after that to protect your skin

She also mentioned that its advisible not to buy a whole range of product from a brand, especially SK II, since all their products can be quite acidic.

Celebrate New Year @ Disneyland with me…

OKs Christmas BBQ

So its finally my turn to organize a gathering for OKs! OKs stands for Ops Kakis, a group of people who work in the same field gathers regularly for meal. On Christmas Day, we’ve decided to gather at my place for a BBQ. Thank god, today’s weather is fantastic and we are really blessed with such great weather.

For BBQ, we had bacon with asparaghus (hoped I’ve spell it correctly), satay, otah and chicken wings. It was really enjoyable as we actually overshot the stimulaed time (at 10pm, the lights at the BBQ pit was off). So we had to rely one of our kaki’s portable light to lightup our place.

After the BBQ, we also had gift exchange. Everyone of us enjoyed ourselves (especially the kids).

WordPress Version 2.7

After the complaining earlier, I’ve decided to give it a try to update my blog to WordPress Version 2.7! And YES, I did it. The upgrade has been successful and the interface for the latest WordPress is superb!  There are some functions which I’ll start exploring during the weekends and holiday.

Jingyi new phone… NOKIA E66

And for this year, Jingyi’s Christmas present is a Nokia E66. I’ve actually got the intention to buy her a phone for Christmas, but just that I don’t really know which one she really likes as she has been contemplating whether to get a Samsung or Nokia phone.

While we were doing Christmas shopping last night, she reminded me that she needs to get a new battery for her Samsung phone as it seems to be faulty, she actually charged the phone, but the battery was left with 1 bar by night time, alittle unusual.

So I asked her,
Me: You want to buy battery for your phone ah?
JY: Yup
Me: If you want to buy new phone, don’t buy battery. If you want to buy battery, don’t buy phone. So which do you prefer?
JY: Erm, buy new phone lor.

So we went to Nokia Shop to select the phone and chose between E71 nd E66. So she decided that she wanted a E66.

Something nice about the phone, there is a sensor that will activate the keypad light only when neccessary and the best thing is, ITS 3G. So sometimes, maybe we can do 3G video call.
