So far in my life, I’ve yet to step foot on Tekong. I’m a man of a different kind, that’s why the difference. So I specially took leave and accompanied my parents to send my brother to Tekong and also take the opportunity to tour the area.
We reached Pasir Ris bus interchange at about 9.15am, and slowly walk to the queue for the bus. We took the free shuttle service from Pasir Ris interchange to the ferry terminal in Changi. While waiting for the ferry, I saw my colleague whose brother-in-law was also enlisting on the same day.
The ferry trip was about 10 mins and when we reached Tekong, that was when we were first separated from my brother. We were brought around the island by a “tour guide”. Hmm, just a feedback, the guide should have a portable speaker with him. He was simply too soft. We saw the training ground, the bunks, the mess then to the auditorium to see my brother taking oath.
After the oath, we had our meals together with my brother at the mess. By the way, its not call lunch, its termed as food tasting. Then after that, came and announcement that my brother had to fall in and continue with the day’s proceeding.
Then we had to walk from the mess to the ferry terminal (haiz, how come when we reach Tekong, we took a bus, how come when we were goin back we got to walk leh? :p) Anyway, then we went to get the car at White Sands and guess 5 hours of parking cost us how much? Ans: $8!
